Quartiere Spiaggia - www.quartierespiaggia.it

Michele Bozzo, Cicci Porcu and others, after the separation of Ponte Quarter in 1950, formed the present Spaggia Quarter.
The first year, having no financial means, they saluted Our Lady of the Intercession with “the fire of the breakwater”. They collected old tyres, soaked them in petrol and set fire to them on the breakwater at sea.
In the first years after the war, the four unexperienced boys that made up the whole quarter laid their fireworks on the rubble of the houses near the beach and the final part under the Franciscan church. Unluckily the sea became rough and the fireworks got wet, but some people from other quarters helped the boys move the rockets and so the first fireworks of Spiaggia Quarter could be fired.
The first real show dates back to 1955, when the “New Spiaggia Quarter”, born in the same year, sp ent the enormous sum of L. 175.000.
Later on the quarter interrupted its shows, but it never gave up saluting the passage of the statue of Our Lady. In 1976, thanks to some enthusiasts and the skill of fireworker Raffaele Liccardo, the quarter resumed its activity and, attracting lots of young people, has improved ever since. Nowadays “The Children's Quarter is one of the biggest and strongest.
