Quartiere Ponte

The ancient quarter San Nicola became Ponte in 1700 when the old Roman road connecting Genoa to Tuscany was transformed into “Via Regia” (Royal Road) and along its course they built a bridge across the torrent. This bridge was destroyed in the 1915 flood.
Ponte Quarter, which includes the area of the centre between the Town Hall and the railway bridge and the hill of Megli as far as the border with Sori, has maintained its colours: white and red, the colours of Genoa, and its emblem which represents an old gun given to the quarter and a small house where the old members keep the powder and all the implements necessary for the festival of Our Lady.
Our Lady of the Intercession has been celebrated ever since 1500 but she was crowned by the Vatican only on 8th September 1824, a date which is still remembered and celebrated by all the Quarters of Recco with the same devotion as long ago.
